Jozani Forest, Spice Farm and Stone Town Day Tour

This Jozani Forest, spice farm and Stone Town day tour combines three of Zanzibar’s most visited attractions in a single full day, with hotel pick-up and a local guide throughout.

The day begins at Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, the only national park on Zanzibar, where guided trails lead through indigenous forest and across a raised boardwalk over the swamp forest. The park is home to the Zanzibar red colobus, a monkey found nowhere else on earth and numbering fewer than 2,000 individuals, alongside Sykes’ monkeys, bush babies and duiker.

From Jozani the tour continues to a working spice farm, where your guide takes you through the cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, cardamom and black pepper that gave Zanzibar its name as the Spice Island. You taste and smell the spices as they grow rather than seeing them packaged, and the visit ends with a spiced pilau lunch and a selection of tropical fruit grown on the farm. Spices are available to buy directly from the growers.

The afternoon is spent in Stone Town, the historic quarter of Zanzibar City and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. On foot through the narrow streets you see the Old Fort, the seafront facade of the House of Wonders, the Sultan’s Palace, the house associated with Freddie Mercury, and Darajani Market, where the produce, spice and fish halls serve the city rather than the visitor.
